State Historical Museum

Moscow. Red Square. 1872. Alexander II signed a decree on the establishment of a museum.

Red brick. Russian traditions of facade design. Double-headed eagles, lions and unicorns decorate the tower spires.

Parade Hall. 68 portraits of Russian sovereigns. Prince Vladimir and Princess Olga symbolically watering the genealogical tree.

Three floors. 39 halls. Unique decoration. History of the Russian land from the most ancient times to the beginning of the XX century.

Room 18. Decorated in the style of royal chambers, dedicated to the sovereign’s court. Fabulous birds, plant ornament. The ceiling is covered with gold leaf.

Exhibits of private collections. Archaeological finds. Special purchases. The museum’s collection has more than 5 million items.

A cup, granted by Peter I. XVIII century. Turning work of Tsar Peter Alekseevich. One of the most famous exhibits of the museum.

Blau’s Globe. 17th century. Created by famous Dutch cartographers. Acquired by order of Peter the Great. In 1912 it was given to the museum.

The Dolgorukov family coat of arms. 1885. Exhibit of the Golden Pantry of the Museum.

Ink device. 1879. To the 50th anniversary of V.A. Dolgorukov’s service in the officer ranks.

‘Apostolos.’ 1564. The first dated book printed at the Moscow Print Yard by Ivan Fedorov and Pyotr Mstislavets.

ABC. 1637. Vasily Burtsov. One of the first printed alphabets produced at the Moscow Print Yard in large editions.
