Armenian carpet

Armenian artistry in carpet weaving is a deeply ancient craft. The earliest homes were either built from stone or set within the rock itself. These cold walls and floors required insulation. The necessary materials – sheep’s wool, goat’s hair, dyes, and fibers – were always abundant. Ancient excavations reveal to us the immense role that carpets played in people’s lives. Mothers preserved the patterns and secrets of weaving for their daughters, who, from a young age, wove their own dowries. They believed in the power of the carpet’s ornamentation, featuring animals, birds, and plants, to protect and safeguard their homes. Special carpets adorned churches, and noble courts highly valued their quality and beauty. Traders exported these carpets to neighboring countries. In ancient times, carpets also served as gifts and tribute. Renowned museums in various countries house ancient carpets among their exhibits, showcasing the enduring artistry. Handmade carpets, through the centuries, carry an aura of uniqueness and vibrant colors. They preserve the traditions of the Armenian side, both in antique and modern exquisite carpets!
